Some October Photos

Grandma Marge's Birthday... Too cute - Mattie and Baba sleep the same way... We were so excited that Mattie's brother came back from college the same day we came back from China. He got to spend several days with Mattie before he had to go back...Mattie loves her big brother...

When you have a cold you need tissues on hand...you just never know when you may need one...
Or two...mommy, do you need one?

I should grab six...just in case our noses really get runny...

On 2nd thought, I may need the whole box after all...

But since my nose is small, I will be sure to conserve by using half of one each time...

Making sure you have enough tissues for a cold sure can make a girl tired...

I'm pretty sure we played with as many tissues as we used while we were sick...who would have thought tissues would be great entertainment?

My First Leaf

September 30th, 2007
Caught it!Inspecting...Very Interesting...What does it look like if I hold it up here?Looks good enough to eat!

Hey - why did you take that leaf from me?

Give it back...

Ok mama, you can have it and I'll still be happy... Taking care of Mattie is the most wonderful responsibility I've ever had. There isn't a spare moment it seems...I think many would say I'm spoiling her...I have to force myself to let her play alone with her toys...or put her in bed to sleep. I give myself "a talking to" every day about both of those things. I love being with my little girl and holding her. I love being her mom and I feel incredibly blessed she is my daughter.

9 Months Old Today!

Today, Mattie has been in our arms one month and one day.
The below photo was taken September 9th - during our very first moments with her... I was hoping for a 'comparison' photo. You know, get a not so smiley photo of us cheek to cheek. Wasn't happening! She's such a ham!

Is she going to sneeze in my mouth again?

Whew! I get a big sloppy baby kiss on the cheek instead this time!

Our sweet, sweet Mattie Girl. We are overwhelmed by the love, joy and happiness she has brought to our lives.
We are so very, very blessed.

Our First Week Home

Mattie and I are still trying to get better. Alan has stayed healthy which is SO great! I can't imagine if we were all sick. Some of the people in our group have reported that all of them were sick when they got home! I can't even imagine! I'm going to try to catch up on photos from last week.

Day 3 in the USA
Monday September 24, 2007

Notice how rosy her cheeks are? They are chapped and we think it was from the airplane. I noticed they were getting red while we were flying and then it got worse every day after we were home. The below cleared it up in a few days. I had tried many things that didn't help at all, and the pharmacist at our local grocery recommended it. I think we'll be using lots of it this winter. Her skin seems to be really sensitive...
Now we're to the photos that I wipe her nose before we take it...

Day 4 September 25, 2007

Day 5 September 26, 2007

This is great - I put Mattie in this in our hall while I load the washer and dryer, hang clothes and fold etc. She loves it and will entertain herself for a good 20m before she get's bored.

Guess who is up from her nap! I will post again ASAP!!

We're Home!

I am SO sorry I have not posted - many of you have emailed me asking if everything is OK! When we were leaving China I was getting sick and was full blown sick by the time we arrived home. Then on Monday, Mattie caught what I have and she has been sick all week and is still not feeling well as I type (but is down for a nap giving me a couple of seconds).

We left China/Guangzhou Thursday morning - had a layover in Hong Kong, and left HK at 5pm. Here's what Mattie did for most of the flight...
She was so great - she only cried a couple of times. Our plane did not have enough gas to make it from HK to Chicago, so we had to make an unexpected stop in the US to refuel, and missed our connecting flight to get home! Geesh! So we had to get a hotel room and left Chicago on Saturday instead. Fortunately we were not alone! Our friends Adam, Patty, Elisa and Maria were with us the whole time!
Here's Mattie her first day in the USA - in a hotel - in Chicago! She's proud to be an American!

But getting on a plane AGAIN on Saturday - that she was not too happy about. She cried alot of our flight home. She was happy again when we were on the ground though. Here we are at the airport - My Parents picked us up...

Mattie is cracking up at Gramps...Grams brought a hat to the airport and somehow Mattie ended up with the headband she had on earlier. So most of our photos at the airport Mattie has it in her mouth. Someone finally said - you should take that. Duh! So here's one without the headband in her mouth! I think the overnight stop really made our transition more difficult - we got about 3 hrs of sleep and had to wake Mattie up to get to the airport. We tried to stay up Saturday. Mattie could not at all - we tried to get her up in the middle of the day (which was the middle of the night in China) but she would sleep in any position we had her in - she cracked us up even with our Jetlag.
Alan's family came over Sunday - My sister took photos for us and I still don't have those - I will post them soon I hope.
Here's one someone took w/ my digital camera that day...
And that is what Mattie did most of Saturday and Sunday.
And this is what she did most of the night Saturday and Sunday...

It took Mattie a whole week to reverse her days and nights. I think Daddy's about there. Mommy is still trying. After being up several times each night I think my body thinks the new schedule is sleep in 1 and 2 hr. incraments and that's what I am still doing even though Mattie is not! Kind of funny!

There's a lot to tell about the last week - Mattie is up now and sitting on my lap twisting around so I will post again later...
